Review of Dancer in the Dark (2000) by Michael C — 21 Apr 2011
It's so beautiful! Von Trier is usually known for shock films with sex and what not, and that makes them realistic and dark which can be good (Dogville, Antichrist) or bad(The Idiots) But this movie does not corner that area or involve it either.
It involves a slowly blinder Czech women with her son, trying to fund surgery for her son to not suffer the same illness she does while maintaining her life, her probelms of sudden trances, musicals, and singing, not to mention the face that it's 1964 and she comes from a communist country in Washington.
It's a very beautiful moviebut it has it's dull moments, but the movie is great and has one of the most beautiful endings i've ever seen in a film....ever!
