Review of Dancer in the Dark (2000) by Neville B — 09 Sep 2013
Very much a Marmite sort of film, I suspect, but I find this film emotionally devastating. A superb performance by Bjork who is perfectly cast as a naive, coquettish immigrant trying to protect her child in the best way she knows how.
The musical performances are not quite Busby Berkeley, but they add charm to the overwhelmingly sad plot. Not an easy watch by any means, but one of Von Trier's best works in my opinion.
