Review of Dance of the Dead (2008) by Ryan A — 20 Jun 2009
As I await the arrival of the zombie apocalypse, I keep my mind sharp and live vicariously through films that serve as satiation for my thirst to kick zombie ass. I've taken the quizzes, folks, and if you want to survive, you better hang with guys like me.
As a point of comparison, the zombie flick 'Return of the Living Dead' is a good one to use. I put that film on a pedestal for zombie flicks because its story is good, the effects are good, and the characters are even better.
Plus, it's hilarious. 'Dance' is nowhere near the level of 'RotLD', but it's a lot of fun to watch with a group of fellow zombie flick fans. They did a decent job with the effects, but their basic technique is to put the gruesome stuff in the dark so you see some splattering, but you don't get to see much.
It's also a great high school satire with excellent caricatures of stereotypical high school students and teachers. There's some subtext going on, but who cares. It's zombies! If you're a fan of the genre, you'll like this.
It's good, but it's not great.
