Review of Dance of the Dead (2008) by Joshua W — 27 Jul 2010
Maybe it is wrong to assess a zombie comedy flick after watching Zombieland, maybe if I had watched Dance of the Dead first it may have gotten to a 70%, but all said and done lets review.
The story centers around high school students getting ready for prom, but their is a powerplant near a cemetery and BANG, instant zombie. You'd think that maybe someone would think and not plus nuclear reactors next to anything at all, it always has to ruin something. The story is fairly shallow and weak. Dialogue not all that great at times and the low budget plays into affect more often then not.
The comedy itself is hit and miss at times and the horror/suspense aspects weren't there except for gore. Plus a lot of wasted potential, their was so much more that could have been done to improve this film but it did not capitalize on these chances like it should have. But that's not to say the movie is isn't enjoyable, the cast is decent and built up well. and there are plenty of laughs to be had, at times.
So if you liked Zombieland and wouldn't mind watching a lower budget, weak scripted, occasionally funny version then watch this. but realistically, given the choice just re watch Zombieland for the hundredth time. OR watch maybe Dawn of the Dead, just as funny at times and overall better.
So rent it, watch but probably wouldn't Re Watch or keep. not while you got Zombieland in hand anyway, and if you do not, GO OUT AND BUY ZOMBIELAND!!!!!!!!
