Review of Dance Me Outside (1995) by Lucy R — 28 Aug 2017
As Native myself, I thought it was great. The story of Little Margaret is a sobering reminder that thousands of Native women are going missing/being murdered at an exponential rate and their families see little to no justice. As of this writing, another's body was just found near, again, the Red River, which has been the site of MANY Native bodies being found.
Then there's Adam Beach (wakka wakka!!!!) and Ryan Black (ditto!), most reviews never discuss the two side stories---Silas' sister's marriage to a white lawyer and her past with Michael GreyEye's character. When they take the lawyer into the woods for a naming ceremony is one of the funniest parts of the film! It shows the reality of reserve/reservation life, that it's not always sad poverty porn. We cry, but we laugh, we love, we have a good time, as well as the bad times. I AM THE WOLVERINE!!!!! AWOOOOOO!!!!!
