Review of Dan in Real Life (2007) by Nate G — 12 Apr 2012
Dan in Real Life takes a slightly less than original story and turns it into something unique. From the beginning even the coldest of hearts can feel for the main character, Dan. This is mostly thanks to a phenomenal performance by Steve Carell that could have easily been overplayed.
The rest of the cast held their own as well, providing well timed comic relief (and despite some bombed lead performances, Dane Cook continues to impress me with his supporting performances). Throughout much of this film, you're not sure if you want to laugh or cry and there's a good chance you'll do both.
Dan in Real Life follows the typical happy ending mold, but the journey makes the trip well worth it. I strongly recommend this one.
