Review of Dan in Real Life (2007) by Cancelled U — 12 Nov 2010
While watching Dan In Real Life, you will see Dan's life as how he sees it or how his family sees it. Dan is a widower, with three daughter - one of them is handful. On the way to his family reunion, he encounter a middle age women in a book store and fall for her, only later he realizes that she is his 'playboy' brother's girlfriend.
As the movie goes, we will see the chemistry between Dan and the women. Dan's family. Dan's siblings. Dan's kids. Dan is the kind of character that I relate (not on being father, obviously), but as being a good, righteous man who wants the best thing for his family, excluding himself. I love how the movie portray his family, its not dysfunctional type - just your normal, witty and annoying members. I don't think the movie fails to attempt what it plans out to be. Its a feel-good movie.
Steve Carrell always amaze me, he is just perfect as Dan. Juliette Binoche is perfect as the middle age women. Even Dane Cook did well. Like I said, while watching the movie if you see it through Dan's eyes - it make sense. If not, than forget it. You might actually get bored. Oh, and great great soundtrack too!
8/10.
