Review of Damsels in Distress (2012) by Paul P — 01 Jan 2013
Having Whit Stilman back finally after nearly 15 years away is a real pleasure.
As with his previous films, the focus of this film is on preppy academics, if you were not a fan of his work before, this is unlikely to change your opinion of him. Personally I do respond to his films and I love the settings and the dialogue that Stilman and his cast deliver. It is funny and fresh and a real pleasure to watch.
The damsels in this film are terrific, with Indie queen Gerwig leading the way, I really like her work here. The remaining damsels are equally fine and we get some great cameos from the likes of Alia Shawkat, Aubrey Plaza and the Office's Zach Wood (so funny).
I really enjoyed this little tale which was delivered by a great cast.
