Review of Damsel (2018) by Jon H — 30 Sep 2018
The opening shot is classic and contemporary, holding on the face of the iconic wester settler, that really brings focus on the directors talent. Which I happen to be one to appreciate in it's bohemian artistic beauty, lending itself to the bazaar.
However, it wasn't until afterwards in further contemplating the film for it's significance that I realized the sociological relevancy of it's message of an independent women being propositioned inappropriately in a mans world and responding to it better than they were.
It brought out the irony in the ridiculous tone the director had chosen to poke fun at how immature and off the mark our efforts actually are. Everyone having a different agenda and seldom making a connection to consecrate it.
I loved this film as it reminded me of one of my favorite films; Dead Man -the black and white western with Jonny Depp, few words and Neil Young on midi guitar narrating the soundtrack. Go see it if you liked and could appreciate that film too.
