Review of Damien - Omen II (1978) by Mike G — 09 Oct 2007
There is nothing scary about hitting puberty, even if you are the Son of Satan. "The Omen II" opts to skip a few years ahead of where the superior original left off and start with Damien in his 13th year.
The movie relies too heavily on the coming-of-age story rather than the fight between good and evil that made the original so terrifying. William Holden and Lee Grant don't seem to mesh well together as a couple, although Jonathan Scott-Taylor does surprisingly well as a teenage Damien.
Also unlike the original, the deaths are brutal, excessive and graphic, something that takes away from the suspense and tension ... just not that great of a movie.
