Review of Damien - Omen II (1978) by Matthew R — 13 Oct 2009
It is a well made film, and has some memorable moments and some nice visuals, but as much as I can appreciate it, it feels like it isn't really canon, as far as it's predecessor. The first Omen stands alone, I think it's rounded and balanced and works. This one, it does feel like just another installment, but I have to admit, it is quite compelling to watch Damien be so creepy and evil, that I did enjoy. More could have been done with it, quite easily, but it just wasn't really original enough - it even left out some of the more original ideas from the first one. Also, some of the things they did to tie it to the first movie don't make all that much sense. Some of the cast were quite good, too. I mean, Lance Henriksen has been in a host of cool movies since then, and gets a cool part here too.
Anyway, it's competent, but not canon.
