Review of Damien - Omen II (1978) by Mark K — 29 Aug 2012
This sequel to the original Omen isn't as good as it's predecessor and this is an awful sequel because the film has a lot of problems and issues from start to finish. Damien Omen II is an awful film and it could have been so much better if it weren't for the lame and boring kills and lack of suspense and tension.
Although the plot of this film is interesting I mean the plot of each Omen film just kept me interested since the original Omen is the birth of Damien part 2's plot is about Damien's rise to power in which Damien Omen II takes place after the events of the first film where Damien is now a teenager and studying at a military school not before he is back on track to fulfill his destiny as the Anti Christ.
To begin with Omen II is nowhere as good as the original Omen and despite that the film has issues there are some great things about it. So far this movie could have been so much better if it weren't for the awful pacing issues and the script itself.
For the most part Omen II really had so many problems and I wasn't fund of watching this film a lot and it could have been so much better so far. Although I was fund of a couple of things about Damien Omen II.
What's great about Omen II is that the film has some impressive moments and the film also has a lot of intense and some suspense scenes although it could have been so much better if it was just as suspenceful as the original Omen.
There are some intense scenes in this film and mainly the opening scene with Bugenhagen and his friend Michael dies in the lair of the Anti Christ is one of the most intense parts of the film. The scene the Thorn plant faces problems is also one of the most intense parts of the film and I did like thee plant scene in the film so far.
What I also like about Omen II is that the film also has an amazing score from Jerry Goldsmith and I like the songs in this film as much as I enjoyed the songs in the original Omen and sometimes the songs used in the film are quite creepy and I did like the idea so far.
What I also like about Omen II is that the film also has some unique and incredible ideas from start to finish and there are lots of brilliant ideas with this movie and I was seriously fund of everything with the film though it could have been better so far.
The biggest downside of Omen II is that the film doesn't have the originality of it's predecessor and I wish that this movie could have been better if it had all of the originality of it's predecessor and thanks to the lack of originality it could have been so much better and the movie doesn't count in being a good film when it had several impressive ideas to make the film a lot.
My other problem with this movie is that the film has some boring and lame kills. There are some impressive kills but there are lots of lame and boring kills. The death of Aunt Marion was lame and it wasn't that scary at all.
Joan Hart's death was impressive in this film. While the rest of the kills are just lame and boring and I seriously didn't like the idea of most of the kills in this movie and some of the kills aren't even filled with suspense and tension and I was annoyed most of the time in watching this film so far and I was already thinking how forgettable the film is.
Now the acting is great and decent sometimes all of the casts in this film did a fascinating job with they're roles in the film and all of the actors and actresses in this film handled they're performances really well in this movie so far even the actor who played Damien Thorn in this film is great as well.
Director Don Taylor should not have directed this film and I'm glad also that director Richard Donner didn't direct this movie although if David Seltzer(the screenwriter for the original Omen) wrote this film I would definitely like Richard Donner to return in directing this film so far.
Overall Damien Omen II gets a 2/10 because there are some impressive ideas in this sequel but the film suffers from lack of originality and it also suffers from a lot of bad issues and problems like boring and lame kills and lack of suspense and tension could have been so much better so far.
