Review of Damage (2012) by Hn H — 28 Jul 2008
It was like reading a novel. "Fade into black" sequences as the end of each chapter. The characters looked as if they were still in the book not linvin the real life thats why actings were somehow pretentious (maybe it was because of their dialogues and sometimes insisting on nonverbal actings -as if in the mean while the writer is describing their faces and their looks and thoughts!).
Anyway... if it wasnt for the last scenes and what happend to Martyn, I would rate it as "Not Interested at all". And if it wasnt for the last sentences of the script narating by Stephen (Jeremy Irons), I would leave the movie with 2 stars. but now I look up to the movie and respect it and even recommend it.
The directing was not something special but it was successful to give the movie a true blue atmosphere of the book (which the screenplay is based on).
The sex scenes were awkward & obsessive. And about the actors... God! Jeremy Irons cant seem to plead for a woman! It wasnt pleasant or acceptable to see him behaving outrageous over a woman. And what woman then?! Juliette Binoche! Maybe because she hasn't got type of body or feature that turns me on, she couldnt be matched with the role in my point of view.
Whatever! I like the last lines (only).
