Review of Damage (1992) by Jeff D — 05 Sep 2011
An English politician falls head first into a lustful affair with his son's fiance. The two are bitter opposites. Stephen, the politician, has always had a passionless, calculated life where he controlled himself and everything around him.
On the other hand, Anna, doesn't really understand companionship but rather has always been involved in relationships of pure lust and nothing more. The film chronicles these two individuals, as they hide their relationship.
It's an interesting film because it really does a great job of dissecting these two types of individuals and how their viewpoint on their relationship seems to differ and grow further apart as Stephen grows more and more in love with her.
Louis Malle creates a well-crafted and well-acted film about lust and desire that is erotic and twisted. Good stuff.
