Based on a true story of an AIDS patient who refused to let his HIV diagnosis in 1985 be the death sentence the doctors predicted. McConaughey is frighteningly thin (gaunt!) to play the role, and he perfectly captures Ron's homophobia and dissolute lifestyle, as well as his gradual shift from ego-centric jerk to an awareness of the plight of others.
A painful reminder of how big pharma greed and homophobia trumped public health interests as so many were dying.
