Review of Dallas Buyers Club (2013) by An L — 02 Jul 2014
Not exactly an entertaining piece of film-making, this will hardly lighten up an evening. But you can look forward to seeing a stunning performance from Matthew McConaughey, currently the hottest acting talent in Hollywood.
This is the true story of Ron Woodruff, a trailer-trash Texan, who is homophobic and lives a very promiscuous lifestyle in the mid 1980's. He discovers that he is HIV positive, and although initially refuses to accept it, he ends up defying it and refusing to just lay down and die. He becomes an unlikely saviour for hundreds of fellow HIV sufferers.
Powerful, brilliant movie. McConaughey looks like a ghoul in this, as he has gone full method-actor on this role. Just don't expect to be cheered up ;).
