Review of Dallas Buyers Club (2013) by Matt L — 30 Aug 2014
McConaughey actually delivered an impeccable performance and did so relying on actual skills rather than shirtlessness. This is a gritty, bare-bones (literally) story about the early, exploratory years of HIV/AIDS in American culture.
McConaughey lifts this story out of obscurity much like Tom Hanks did in Philadelphia Freedom. The story was really well done for the most part, not dragging on too long, but highlighting the few highs and many lows of the main character's development.
If I had any complaints it would be the mis- or under-use of Jared Leto's performance overall and choosing Jennifer Garner for her role. I've never been a fan of her abilities.
