Review of Dallas Buyers Club (2013) by Gerry R — 14 Dec 2014
There are many good films which have AIDS and the search for a cure or battle against discrmination. The DBC seems an unlikely story to add to this pantheon as it takes a hard and often unsentimental stance.
MM's character is a deeply unsympathetic and morally ambiguous central character who is hard to tolerate let alone like. His motives are never clearly beyond self interest. The performance is almost painful to watch such is the drastic weight loss and rawness of MM's performance.
It is a really interesting story and an amazing portrayal by a really talented cast.
