Review of Dallas Buyers Club (2013) by Tim R — 12 Jan 2015
Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto both give really great performances in this character study film based on real events though a little embellished for art's sake. The film explores the harsh realities of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s, and does it by showing this one guy, a homophobe and racist from Texas who contracts HIV, and ends up helping a lot of people by setting up a "Buyer's Club" in which people pay $400 a month and get all the drugs.
..or vitamins that they want. It really is a movie carried by the top notch performances of McConaughey and Leto, and it is worth seeing for just that.
