Review of Dallas Buyers Club (2013) by Jiri B — 24 Oct 2015
McConaughey and Leto deserved their Oscars, but this movie deserves to be talked about more regarding how it exposes the FDA and Big Pharma. No surprises, of course, but man is it infuriating. Just reprehensible.
McConaughey plays a real anti-hero - I respect what he did, but I never liked the character. Leto, though brilliant, is almost a cliche - the pathetic transsexual. He got a lot of criticism from that community, but I thought he seemed real based on who the character was.
He wasn't supposed to be a role model. Still, I get the criticism because in most films, they're always pathetic and sad. Anyway - a very good film. Maybe it has opened some eyes as to how things were for HIV-positive folks when it seemed most folks didn't give a damn.
