Review of Dallas Buyers Club (2013) by Reellm — 19 Apr 2015
5/5★ Mathew McConaughey owns Dallas Buyers Club. I didn't know he could give such an incredible performance. He brought Ron Woodroof to life, fully inhabits the character, and humanized the AIDS epidemic of the 80's, the fear and uncertainty surrounding the disease and those living with it. There is a tragic aspect to the film, because we as the viewers know that there is no cure and the Woodroof is desperately scrambling to find something that at most will let him live a little longer, and do something that will give him back a little human dignity.
In any other film Jared Letos' Rayon would have stolen the show. He is unrecognizable and completely committed to the role.
Dallas Buyers Club does not ask for pity but demands attention and understanding for what was and continues to be a serious issue.
