Review of Dallas Buyers Club (2013) by Campbell P — 16 Sep 2014
Dallas Buyers Club is definitely a noteworthy movie. There's a lot of scenes that really hit you hard and are just really THAT powerful. The story follows Ron Woodruff, a man that finds out he has HIV aka AIDS.
On his journey through denial, we meet great characters such as Rayon (Leto) and Eve (Garner). He learns that there is a better treatment than the medicine being given to people with HIV and starts dealing to the patients at a local motel.
I have to say there are some pretty amazing performances especially Mcconaughy and Leto. Their characters are very unique and quite frankly are some of my favorite characters in film ever. They are that good! The story is very emotional and powerful and even though Woodruff can be an a-hole at times we really understand why he acts this way and we really get to know his attitude and his viewpoint on everything.
I've never felt so moved during the end when (Spoiler) the two lead characters die! That's something new to me! This was a powerful movie that I wished had more of an affect on me than it did.
Dallas Buyers Club is one of a kind. B+.
