Review of Dallas Buyers Club (2013) by Vance F — 11 Mar 2015
A fantastic movie with tremendous performances. McConaughey and Leto were beyond deserving of their awards.
McConaughey's performance and transformation in this role carry the audience along for powerful ride. A once strong, straight cowboy must find comfort and meaning in that which he's grown to hate. The change in his character plays out very well where the growth doesn't seem forced or ill-placed.
It certainly makes me doubt the FDA's true intentions and the health care institution. Are they out to help the patient or make money? In any case, McConaughey's conflict with the government gives the story an underdog feel, and who doesn't root for the underdog?!
