Dallas Buyers Club is an emotional story about one redneck's struggle with HIV; both in terms of accepting the disease, and accepting his homosexual contemporaries who share the same woes. Throughout the film, we see Rod's (Matthew McConaughey) transformation from a racist, homophobic southerner to a compassionate man on a mission to help his new friends and to fight the FDA and medical system.

The film features fantastic performances, especially from McConaughey and Jared Leto, with Jennifer Garner doing a decent job in a supporting role. However, the film feels a little bare at times. The story is engaging and interesting, but it's told in a simple fashion.

Not to say that that means this is a bad film, because it isn't; however, I just felt that some of the emotional beats were missed. Perhaps I personally just didn't relate to some of the characters or the subject matter.

who can say. Overall though, Dallas Buyers Club is a delicately crafted, yet simple film that is sure to tug on some people's heart strings but unfortunately, didn't do a whole lot for me.
