Review of Dahmer (2002) by Jessica H — 21 Aug 2009
Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) stars as Jeffrey Dahmer in this semi-biographical movie that paints the notorious serial killer in a relatively sympathetic light. While the movie does provide a complex portrayal of Dahmer's perverse lifestyle and aberrant behavior, many of the events and characters are inexplicably altered or fictionalized, so fans of authentic biopics may feel slighted by the liberties taken in making this film.
I was also disappointed to find many of the interesting, gruesome details of the case omitted in the story, adding insipidness to what could've been a potent work of macabre.
