Review of Daddy's Little Girls (2007) by Philip P — 30 Mar 2008
Very rarely do I watch a film that manages to touch me on every conceivable emotion, joy, anger and sadnees. Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls manages to touch on all this and become Perry first masterpiece in this reviewers opinion.
I know that word is a bit strong but I feel it describes this movie perfectly. The character of Monty James is a nice departure for Perry who usually tends to create a "good" black man/"bad" black man dynamic by showing a man with various flaws, who has had to overcome various shortcomings but yet still is a very likeable and deep character.
You can't help but root for him toward the end when he gets his daughters back after beating down the local drug lord, even though it was wrong I couldn't help but still enjoy it. Gabrielle Union does a great job as a lawyer who just can't seem to find the right man and again shows why she is quite the underrated actress and her and Gary Sturgis have legitimate and strong chemistry and you can't help but root for them as a couple even as her bougie friends played by Tasha Smith and Tracee Ellis Ross tell her otherwise and pretty much frown upon the relationship.
Overall and great film that I reccommend to anyone, even though who normally don't enjoy romance films.
