Review of Daddy's Home (2014) by Frederic C. B — 26 Apr 2016
It is fair to say no one usually expects anything great from a Will Ferrell comedy, but Daddy's Home is downright tasteless, repetitive, and cliched. With great difficulty, the adept main cast, which include Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg and Linda Cardellini, manage to make any impact and show off their talent throughout the movie, which is about the only thing that makes the hour and a half bearable.
Lowering expectations, there is not much wrong with the direction of the movie, but the story. The movie gives out a promising beginning and ends with a nice conclusion. However, besides a few dumb and simple comedy here and there (which can be counted with one hand), the whole plot becomes a long trial, which is a problem for such a short film.
There is not much to say about this comedy. Daddy's Home uses the usual comedy formula but fails to make it amusing. While the movie has a promising main cast, the rest of the cast is just fake and the story is exhaustively repetitive. If anything, you will be left questioning the decision of why did you watch it in the first place.
