Review of Daddy Day Care (2003) by Jesse H — 12 May 2012
Daddy Day Care is one of the most stupid, annoying insults of my intelligence I have ever seen. This film relies too heavily on the talents of Eddie Murphy. Lets' face it, Daddy Day Care would be unbearable film if it wasn't for the talents of Eddie Murphy.
Daddy Day Care has some funny ideas, but it fails to execute them well. Although I did find the relationship between Eddie Murphy and his kid interesting, that was largely because of the talents of Eddie Murphy, and not because it was well written, well acted, or funny.
I find the villain to be annoying, and to be a complete insult to the intelligence of the audience. On the bright side, Eddie Murphy is charming, and there are quite a few moments that made me go "aw, that's cute".
In the end, it is the laughingly stupid story that fails Daddy Day Care. I remember liking this when I was little, but now that I am 15, I feel that this film has aged tremendously. Most of the humor comes exclusively from Eddie Murphy, and it is never a good thing when all the humor comes from one actor.
Daddy Day Care is the perfect example of how much Eddie Murphy's career has collapsed. My recommendation, if your younger than 13, then you'll probably enjoy this film. However, if you are old enough to remember what Eddie Murphy was, then you will get nothing out of Daddy Day Care.
2/5 stars.
