Review of Dabangg (2010) by Kaustubh K — 09 Sep 2010
First of all, I must admit that I was very keen on watching Dabangg for none other than Salman Khan in his avataar of 'Chulbul Pandey'. And I had expected nothing but hazaar entertainment and of course the song 'Munni Badnam huin darling tere liye...(which is the last song of the film and takes so long in coming that I almost feared that it had been omitted from the first release of the film.).
But this 'family' starrer (Salman and Arbaaz Khan...and not to mention the ravishing Malaika Arora Khan in the item song...where was Sohail?) thoroughly disappoints. The end-result is a Matrix (in the second but opening sequence) meets Hulk (in the climax sequence) meets Rajnikanth flick with plenty of holloywood-ishtyle-cars-exploding-all-over-the-place action scenes with sound effects of a South Indian action flick, tons of imbecile jokes (on which you have long stopped laughing) and love songs between Sonakshi Sinha and Salman Khan (poor bro Arbaaz gets to romance but no song for him...tchh tchh).
The brothers took some pity on us and did not make this a family tear-jerker (although they are family but then that would be invading KJo's turf) or a plot with unnecessary twists and turns like Raajneeti. Thank God for small mercies!
