The best of the modern pirate movies! Why? First of all, the amazing Geena Davis as Captain, with a monkey who makes for some cute moments. Secondly, Matthew Modine is her sidekick/slave, and yet he is smart and able.
Third, Langella is the Black Dawg and growls his way through some serious yet funny bits. And the waves crashing into the ships, the cannons tearing up Port Royal, the sheer awesome scale of this production, and yet they manage to not lose sight of personal touches.
