Review of Curse of the Puppet Master (1998) by Stefán Birgir S — 18 Apr 2010
In a complete binning of the story established by the previous films (apart from the end of the 2nd which was sort of ignored too) The kind of nice killer puppets now belong to this guy. After noticing the nice but socially inept garage worker named Tank carving some wood the puppet master hires him to carve him a perfect puppet.
It all unfolds that the grand plan is to turn the nice if a tad simple craftsman into a puppet...for no apparent reason. This is complicated by the beloved daughter of the puppet master falls for Tank.
The murder element required to make this officially a horror film is mostly limited to the last 20 minutes and mostly confined to minor characters sent just to annoy the main cast leaving a film that feels more like an episode of the outer limits...but not quite as good.
The film runs about 10 minutes short of the 90 minutes it as supposed to which may be a reason for the non conclusive ending and left me with the greatest sense of confusion as "Tank" spent the entire film carving a wooden puppet only for the finished product to be some kind of robot...huh?!
