Personal secrets and political maneuvering amongst a Tang dynasty emperor and his family. Richly lavish movie by Zhang Yimou and starring Gong Li and Chow Yun Fat is fascinating to watch (even if some of the secrets do seem a little obvious); unfortunately I hated the ending and felt somewhat let down after investing so much emotional attachment to the characters.
