Review of Curse of the Golden Flower (2006) by Mags H — 26 Jun 2008
A tragic yet fragmented tale of treachery and suppression, which doesn't quite flow as well as it should. The colours are a positive assault to the senses, with everything vibrant and so full of life, which beautifully juxtaposes the Princess' life slipping away day by day, and her passion to live long enough to see her domineering husband overthrown.
The ending is strange and unfulfilling, which ruined the overall effect of the film for me, despite the cinematic beauty.
