Review of Curse of the Golden Flower (2006) by Laurent M — 29 Jun 2008
This movie had the power of a shakespearean or greek tragedy. it is as if macbeth met titus andronicus and oedipus rex, with an asian setting. the visuals are great and the fights are straight up wire fu.
I think my favorite part of the movie is after the rebellion and how everything is quickly cleaned and put back into order. it doesn't matter what transpires because the order of things will be restored, it's like nothing ever happened.
I know that the concept is totally lost in most stories today but it was very common in the past. I thought it was a great homage to the old tragedies.
