I was under the impression that this would be along the lines of "House of Flying Daggers". The action here was slightly surreal. The emphasis of the movie is not mystical. The driving force is not love or honor as in most movies of this type, but shame, guilt, scandal, and secrets.
Gong Li was amazing!
