Review of Curse of the Golden Flower (2006) by Octavio M — 03 Jan 2009
If one could categorize this film, it would fit in the mold of pure cinematic poetry. This film had a pseudo Shakespearian feel to it. I say that because how of how Yimou Zhang presented his themes of allegory, deception, and tragedy at its purest.
This film demands to been seen more than once or twice and it truly deserves it, in my opinion. I tried to watch this film without the subtitles, which is bizarre to some, but the experience is just as fresh in my mind.
