Review of Curse of Chucky (2013) by Tony C — 23 Sep 2013
Sometimes that rare sequel comes along that surprises, thrills, and adds to the mythology created in earlier installments. Curse of Chucky is that breed, a movie teeming with originality thanks in large part to the return of series creator Don Mancini.
Brad Dourif comes back again to voice Chucky, but he's not the only returning player. There are plenty of surprises that will delight fans of the franchise and I'm certain this will recruit some curious new (maybe younger?) moviegoers.
The kills are pretty horrific and the budget is used sparingly to some impressive results. The movie takes place almost entirely in a creepy home, which allows for a very claustrophobic feel. The final act is a blast, with twist after twist.
The scene after the credits made me jump with joy because it's so well-done and cool. If you are or have ever been a fan of the Chucky/Child's Play series, you simply must see this installment.
It's made for the fans and if it is to be the swan song of the series, Chucky certainly went out with a hell of a bang. Sans spoilers, there are very interesting ideas introduced at the end that had me begging for more.
Why wasn't this given a theatrical release, Universal?! Chucky is back in a big way.
