Review of Curse of Chucky (2013) by Mike I — 27 Sep 2013
Having just watched the film, I don't quite know where my thoughts are with it... For the most part, the film threw dramatic moments in my face, with no real pay off. Moments that tried to build tension just seemed way to forced.
The dinner scene where every 2 minutes it focuses on a character as they notice something's wrong, only to be played off as something completely opposite, just seems like the directors didn't know how to build suspense correctly, and my god, the lazily placed jumpscare at the very end just looked cheap as shit! But that's where my negativity towards the film kind of stops, purely because I've always been a Chucky fan, and can't help but feel excited every time I hear the classic voice or see him being badass! For the first half of the film, the animated chucky looks like a girl, they ruined his appearance, but towards the end, after the scars make an appearance, I felt like I was back to watching Childs Play! I loved it! I was very happy with how the directors linked this film back to the original, and even showed the classic death scene of Charles Lee Ray! Overall I'd say I enjoyed the film, but only because of Chucky.
The death scenes were pretty bad, and the acting was awful, but I love that little red haired bastard!
