Review of Curse of Chucky (2013) by Willkai K — 27 Sep 2013
I thought maybe since Curse of Chucky was moving away from the jokey tone of the previous two films I'd watch it, but that was a mistake. I feel bad for the cinematographer because they clearly deserve better material to work on.
The different props for the doll used for different purposes and shots are painfully obvious and so are the CG effects. The tacked-on lame excuse for a connective plot to the first movie was forced and bad. I also didn't like the epilogue pre-credits scene which makes little sense in continuity especially combined with the post-credits scene.
There are also continuity issues, in the original Child's Play, Chucky's doll body was turning into flesh and he was becoming stuck inside it. They got around this a bit in the second and third movies in ways I wouldn't blame you if you found implausible, but we're now at the point of total inconsistency because his body is completely doll-like and yet he's breathing inside of a plastic bag in one scene. Maybe the last two movies have an explanation for this, but I'm not watching them to find out and I doubt I'd buy it anyway.
Overall I was unsatisfied. I'd rather have some insight into why our titular villain became so homicidal in the first place as opposed to this but whatever.
But I'm glad I stuck around to see the post-credits scene where SPOILER ALERT the one and only Andy Barclay (original child actor Alex Vincent all growed up) puts an end to Charles Lee Ray for good. That put a smile on my face. P.S. I can't nope hard enough to Jennifer Tilly.
