Review of Curse of Chucky (2013) by Russ V — 28 Jun 2016
When it seemed as though the series was dead, 9 years after Seed of Chucky, Universal has released a fifth sequel to the classic slasher film Child's Play. After receiving 4 sequels that ranged from bad to okay, I'm sure the last thing people would expect to be good for the series was for Child's Play to get a fifth sequel that's released straight to DVD and Blu-Ray.
But that's what happened, and the result is Curse of Chucky, a surprisingly well made slasher/haunted house horror flick, and which in my opinion is the creepiest, and even more surprising, the best of the series.
Curse of Chucky is step away from the horror-comedy genre from Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, and a return to straight horror which occurred in the first 3 films. Curse of Chucky will the provide you with the most scares yet from any Child's Play movie, and has a plot that ties into the original.
My only complaint about the movie is the CGI, which looks good in the close-ups of Chucky, but otherwise generally doesn't look very good. Curse of Chucky is my new personal favorite of the series, and with a slightly bigger budget for better CGI in future sequels, the Child's Play series could live on and be better than ever.
