Review of Curse of Chucky (2013) by The Critic ( — 04 Mar 2015
Behind those bright blue eyes and cute freckles lies the disfigured face and wicked soul of cinema's most infamous doll. In his sixth film, a direct-to-DVD release (not that you'd know it), Charles Lee Ray, affectionally called Chucky (Brad Dourif), returns to settle an old score.
What works in 'Curse of Chucky''s favour is that it is predominantly set within the confines of a house and that our heroine (Fiona Dourif, Brad's daughter) is wheelchair-bound. This set-up provides for some interesting scenarios and there's enough seat-jumping moments to keep fans happy - and it's the fans that this entry was made for.
Admittedly, the film probably tries to do too much in the final act and there's some unanswered questions here to warrant yet another sequel - you can hear writer/director Don Mancini tapping away at his keyboard now.
