Review of Curious George (2006) by Damon S — 28 Feb 2008
Being among the many kids who grew up with Curious George as their bedtime literature for years, I hadn't even really heard much about this movie, except for when the title 'Curious George' appeared on Will Ferrell's IMDB page.
I turned it on, though, because Starz and HBO weren't offering much else, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of hand animation and of the smoothness of the story. The voice cast was strong (just look at some of the names listed to the right) and the story featuring a surprisingly rich plot, with multiple twists and challenges.
It's obviously not the exact story as those little yellow books, and that's not a bad thing; I hope that this brings Curious George, the curious little monkey (I can still hear the crappily animated theme song from the PBS show when I say that) to more kids.
And, as G-rated films with any value are getting fewer and farther between, this is a good one in the batch.
