Review of Curious George (2006) by Danielle M — 31 May 2009
Cute goes without saying... George is one of the most endearing characters ever to grace children's literature... and, as he proves, the big screen. In a world filled with computer animation, it was almost refreshing to see a 2-D "cartoon" that was just as beautifully animated as something by (my personal favorite) Pixar.
I did, however, feel that the story suffered a bit... just because George is such a wonderful character and I felt there was too little of him. It seemed to mostly revolve around his friend, "the man in the yellow hat" (which, as we learn, has a name -- "Ted"), who, in my opinion, is not nearly as interesting as the curious little monkey.
I've seen bits of the TV show and I tend to like the its style more than the movie's -- the show has a narrator and is more from George's perspective than his adult counterparts. I think it would have been a much more interesting dynamic had they handled the story that way rather than the way they did.
But, I'd say they did alright with what they had.
