Review of Curious George (2006) by Kyle G — 22 May 2012
A perfect and adorable kid's movie. It reaches for a four-year-old's heart in the purest way, not with condescension or judgment or easy lessons, but with boundless love and energy. The movie is put together in the same joyful, cute visual style of H.A. Rey's books: a vibrant and impressive art scheme, minimalist yet shockingly rich and deep, especially in its lovely New York scenes.
Jack Johnson's surprisingly decent songs add an extra layer, but they come from the same desire for simplicity and tenderness, in service to a plot of unabashed warmth and delight.
