Review of Cure (1997) by Ben U — 27 Mar 2009
My third film by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Certainly my favorite so far. One could say it is quite mesmerizing... muhhahaha.
People who have seen the film know what I mean.
Now like Bright Future and Pulse, in Cure KK is talking about the suffocating routine of particularly the Japanese society but also society in general; the willingness to submit, to be put in place and do one's duties in a posistion perhaps not entirely desired.
Thus the irony of what occurs in the film is quite twisted.
And how does that social commentary manifest itself in this film? Through murder, hypnotism and old occult happenings... just to state the tip of the iceberg.
A throughly engaging film, that one can not really truly explain without spoiling it. And seemingly like all Kiyoshi Kurosawa films everything can not be explained exactly in one way, and almost never in a purely logical approach.
I highly recommend people take a look at this one if they haven't.
