Never feels like a cohesive movie. The characters are all flat, I didn't feel like the movie lets us get to know any of them, really. The "plot" and contest are handled as an afterthought, with nothing dramatic or interesting coming from it.

Also, this group of people are friends? I didn't feel any connection at all between them, their all just so thinly drawn there's no real relationships. For an example of what a good version of Cupcakes could have been, I'll cite The Sapphires as a recent one to aspire to, but Cupcakes comes nowhere close.
