Review of Cul-de-sac (1966) by Thomas P — 27 Aug 2015
Lots of yelling at each other.
Intense and visual all the way thru.
But it's weird.
I did like the stunning black and white cinematography, bc it give you something interesting to hold your attention. But this muddled mess has been confounding all who love and or hate it since it premiered.
A jumbled artsy fartsy framework that has enough intelligence and conviction from each character to cause strong reactions from it's audience.
The overwrought, loudmouth characters wore me out, but I get that some ppl loved the quirkiness and completely offbeat oddness of the genre-bending qualities thruout, with an amazingly elegant visual appeal.
Watch at your own risk - I only made it about half way thru before it overwhelmed me.
Maybe I'll try it again at a different time..
2 out of 5.
