Review of Cujo (1983) by Paul J — 11 Apr 2012
A relentless movie about a nasty dog. What elevates this above horror drivel is that the characters are fleshed out. Our lead character is a mother who had an affair. As a result, these are the consequences.
In the end, it's the love of their child that unites husband and wife. Unlike the book, which has the child die. In which case, the story is about divorce and how children suffer for the parent's infidelity.
Either way, the performances are excellent (the mother and son are extremely believable) and the dog is truly terrifying. It's also worth mentioning, Jan de Bont is the cinematographer, who would go on and shoot Die Hard and direct Speed.
As a result, the film does have technical merits.
