Review of Cujo (1983) by Ben L — 05 Nov 2014
My synopsis of this movie would be: A dog becomes rabid after being bitten by a bat and this somehow gives him super strength, extreme levels of rage, and unprecedented determination. Seriously the ridiculousness of this dog just hanging out waiting to kill 2 people in a car is completely over-the-top for me.
And although they tried really hard to add a lot of drool, snot, and blood onto the dog's body they just couldn't stop him from looking cute to me. I'm too much of a dog lover to find this movie scary, and it certainly doesn't help when they throw in scenes of an obviously stuffed dog flying at a character or some guy in a dog suit charging at the car.
Then they add into this the horrible soap opera of the first half of the movie. Way to go, you did a wonderful job making me dislike the main character to the point of not really caring if she's eaten alive by Cujo.
Plus they set up this whole idea of monsters in the kid's closet and that doesn't pay off at all, other than a technique for Tad to calm down when they first arrive at Cujo's house. The movie was too far-fetched and lacked any endearing characters, but at least there was a cute dog to look at through most of it.
