As good as the original Cube, if not better. Yes, it shows what's going on behind the scenes of the cube, but it does so in a way that does not really explain anything at all. The people we see monitoring the cube are as much in the dark as the people in the cube are.
The film adds a whole other layer to the mystery that (despite the crappy first sequel) begs for just one more helping of the series. Let's hope they make one (and make it right).
